About Us
Phantom Dragon Ranch was founded to promote the versatility and talent of the Horse!
At Phantom Dragon Ranch we enjoy challenging our horses and ourselves to excel at multiple skills and disciplines to show the versatility that is possible with these wonderful animals-- the English Shire, Shire sport horses, and small ponies. We also work and perform with other breeds like the Peruvian Paso Andalusian, the Mangalarga Marchador, and Gypsy/Drums.
Costumes & Horses
- Most noted for our costuming with such things as the Dragon, Elephant, Triceratops, 2 headed horse, push-me-pull-you horse, Zebra’s, Unicorns and much more!!
- Costumed performances include The Dragon, Thor's Circus as the Elephant, Monster Ram, and Sange de Torro, with Cedric Hall, directed by Barbara Gardner. Sidesaddle performances include, Balance, Memory, Push Me Pull Me horse, Walking on the Air, Quadrilles and many more.
- We also do everything from traditional Western, English, Dressage, Jumping or Traditional Peruvian, Medieval and Sidesaddle. We incorporate costuming and various riding elements to create unique performances.
- Winners of the Halloween with Horses in Parker, Colorado, having won Grand Prize three times, and First Place Adult division five times. Along with other Costume events at fairs and shows.
Exhibition, Performance & Entertainment
- Ballroom danced with our horses by invitation of country singer, Michael Martin Murphey, at the National Western Stock Show's Evening of Dancing Horses. Carbon Dale was the first Peruvian Horse they ever had perform in that show.
- Paid Tribute to Fallen Soldiers at Cripple Creek Veterans Celebration, Memorial Day Parades, Colorado State Fair, and the John Wayne 100th Birthday Celebration in Winterset, Iowa, again by invitation of Michael Martin Murphey.
- Performed in the Boulder Horse Ballet for over ten year, managed it for 5 years.
Shire Horses
History of Shire Horses
The Shire horse is the purest survival of an early type of horse known to medieval writers as the 'Great Horse.' The English 'Great Horse’ or British 'War Horse' was spoken of in high regard for their strength, courage, and aptitude for military discipline. They were called "The Great Horse" for their size, agility, and the weight of the knights and armor they could carry - 400 lbs+, for rider and armor. The Shire horses' strength, courage and aptitude is what makes them outstanding horses for multiple equine disciplines.
